Brookes Hospital is among the many hospitals across Australia that have been hit by the coronavalavirus pandemic.

But while it is an alarming situation, it is the story of Brookes that is most alarming, the hospital’s chief executive Dr David Brookes said.

Dr Brookes, who was in charge of the hospital for four months after the deadly coronaviruses outbreak, said he had spoken to senior staff who said there was a lack of awareness of the pandemic, with some saying they had heard of the outbreak but not seen any media coverage.

“They said they did not realise that the virus was spreading.

It is very concerning, particularly in a place like Brookes where there are so many people who are caring for those who have died and who are in serious condition, because of the virus,” Dr Brookes told ABC News Breakfast.

He said staff had been told to wear masks at the hospital, but said that had not been an option because of “the pandemic”.

“We have had two fatalities in the last two weeks and it is a very difficult situation to be in, particularly when you have a major coronaviral event,” he said.

Dr Brooks said he was shocked at the lack of media coverage and the fact that there was not a coronavivirus awareness campaign at the facility.

“[We] are really concerned that the media does not have a good grasp of the fact there is a pandemic and that this has not been addressed in this hospital,” he added.

Infectious diseases experts say the virus is spreading at a faster rate than expected, with more than 2,000 cases reported in the past week alone.

Australian Health Minister Peter Dutton said it was important that all health services remained prepared to respond to the pandemics new coronavidae.

As of Monday, there were more than 15,000 coronavids circulating in the world, including 3,746 new infections in the United States, according to the latest data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“The vast majority of people are already getting vaccinated for this new coronas,” he told the ABC’s AM program.

Australia’s health minister says we should all be prepared for a new coronavia epidemic, even though no new cases have been recorded in the US.

‘We are really worried’The Brookes chief executive, Dr David Bros, said the outbreak had caused major disruption to the hospital and staff.

It was also affecting other services in the community.

Mr Brookes stressed that Brookes would remain in a state of lockdown until the virus had been contained.

On Friday, the state of Queensland closed the doors of the Brooke Medical Centre and the Brooking Hospital to staff, staff and visitors, while a state-wide lockdown was in place for a period of four weeks.

Queensland Health Minister Jill Hennessy said the closure of Brooks Hospital would affect around 1,000 staff and the community, and said the hospital would remain closed for six months.

More than 1,200 people have died from the coronas, including 1,639 from the new virus.

ABC Health reporter Tom Curnow has been following the coronavia outbreak closely.
